Music is one of Jamaica’s foundational cultural expressions, significantly influencing local and international audiences.
Under the portfolio of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Jamaica Music Museum (JaMM) , a department of the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), is the exhibition space, research facility and archive for Jamaica’s music. It is mandated to maintain several temporary and one permanent exhibition; collect and preserve musical or related artifacts/objects; document and disseminate information about Jamaican music and promote an understanding through public lectures, such as Grounation, performances and educational outreach programmes, as well as provide a research facility for Jamaican related music.
